Episode Transcript

Priscilla: I come into Kellogg, I come into this place, to pursue my career, not only my job. Kiyan: You never really know what will be a good learning opportunity in the sense that they are pretty much everywhere, and then also sometimes not in the places you'd expect. Host: Imagine you're given an open invitation to follow your passion and investigate a problem you see in the world. A blank canvas where you can immerse yourself in a subject with the ultimate hope of uncovering new insights, and maybe even building a solution to the challenges you see. This is the classic entrepreneur origin story of the people who get so frustrated with butting up against obstacles, the only option is to create a solution themselves. Hi, I'm Tyler Seybold, and this is the Levy Inspiration Grant Program podcast. Every year, we give students at the Kellogg School of Management the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world, to study big, gnarly problems and how those problems might be addressed through entrepreneurship. When they return from their 100% self-driven trips, they sit down with me to share stories of their experiences. Noelle: I don't think I could have imagined it would be so much. Like, until you get there, you really don't know what to expect. Adrian: As I look to carry forward some of the takeaways that I've had from this experience, I'm sure that it'll be something I carry forward throughout the rest of my life. Host: Each episode, we take a look into what they learned: sometimes about their topic and sometimes about themselves. Priscilla: I would say for this trip, I sort of picked up their bravery a little bit and become more firm and confident about myself and my path. Thankfully because of this opportunity of the Levy Grant, I was able to actually go in there and see for sure how it can be very different. Kim: It's not sitting at your desk and thinking I'd be really good at this. It really is just going and talking to people about how to do it and getting to know all of these sort of ways to learn about yourself. Noor: It surprised me so much how innovation was often not in the bigger and fancier things. It was in the simpler things and it was in things that affected a lot more people. Host: So join us as we explore the journeys of our student travelers as they live out the core tenet of the Levy Inspiration Grant Program: go see for yourself. Who knows? You could be witnessing the first chapter of the next big entrepreneur's story.
